Jake and Marissa’s sweet outdoor engagement shoot is sure to leave you beaming with happiness. I have to say that this is one of the sweetest couples. The story of how they feel in love certainly is one of the most heart felt, cutest, and funniest stories I’ve heard to date. Their love begins with a cookout, board games, and pink nail polish worn by the groom. Don’t worry. We’re getting to that part of the story in just a minute. As I am writing these very words, the bride and groom are actually getting married today, June 5th, at the Historic Firehouse No.2 in Springfield, Missouri. Now, I know that I am writing a pretty hefty love story here but trust me girls, you will want to read every single word. Their proposal story really touched my heart and I know that this love story will make your heart smile.
Meeting at a university cookout, Jake and Marissa bonded at a board game after party thrown by her brother, where they battled over who would be the ultimate board game champion. Jake won Marissa’s interest by giving her everything she needed to win the game, Settlers of Catan. The next day after Marissa’s big win, Jake had a friend paint his nails pink in the hopes that he could steal a moment with Marissa to have her remove it while he convinced her into going on a date with him. He succeeded and got a dinner date out of the plan.
The proposal story starts with Marissa getting news that she would be able to attend grad school overseas. She found that not only was graduate school free, but her cost of living would be covered too. When Jake proposed, he had Marissa’s professor email her to say that she had to take pictures with her science honor society at the last minute and that she should dress up. Arriving in khakis and given a lab coat, Marissa was directed to the chemistry lab where Jake had decorated the lab with assorted lights on the ceiling, chalk designs on the counters, and chalkboard signs that said MM + JJ. As Marissa slowly walks up to him, Jake gets on one knee and says she is his best friend, that her dreams were his dreams, and that he will go where she goes. Marissa says, “I think back to his proposal speech and even though it isn’t the manliest comparison, this story reminds me of Ruth when she says where you go I’ll go and your people will be my people. I guess in a way Jake is my Ruth, and in this moment I knew I had someone who understood what love really is; it’s wanting the best for other person, even at the expense of ourselves.”
Marissa, what is one tip you would give a Bride as she is planning her wedding?
“I guess my tips would be no one else can plan your wedding for you if you plan it first. Also, be sure to include your mom and mother in law in the considerations, because they really want to help. It may be your wedding but you are her baby girl. and lastly, the more organized you are the less other options and opinions will bother you.”
When you watch Jake and Marissa together there is not a doubt in your mind that they are in love and simply are perfect for each other. I wish Jake and Marissa all the happiness on their wedding day, and even more years of happiness for their marriage.
